We run our minds like an electrical system in a vehicle. There is no need to reference any medical research studies to realize that writing daily will enhance your writing skills.

What is the reason a blogger will register a highly generic blog and abandon it after a few posts? We've visited some old blogs with one post from over a decade ago. Some don't even go as far as to develop this blog; this website functions as a placeholder with nothing good to offer web surfers.

Maintaining Persistence as a Writer

Do you continue to try after you keep failing? Are you a writer trying to break into the writing  industry? Persistence really works. You will never realize your success if you give up.

In the past decade, my struggles have prevented me from accomplishing my goals. Every time I set a goal, there always seems to be a recurring obstacle or an impossible challenge blocking me from reaching the road to success. I have worked extremely hard to make it to this point in time, but I question the unfortunate chapters.

For the most part, I stopped writing about my struggles to keep myself from falling into a negative trap. While I may complain about my life experiences, I feel that it is better to be positive than to sit back and wait for a miracle. I realized that my struggles have taught me to be persistent, which is the main reason I never give up on trying. My philosophy is that if you keep trying, there is no way you can fail at doing something you enjoy most.

The next time you lose faith in your goals, just remember that persistence is the most powerful antidote to rejection. Every time you get rejectected, learn new techniques to overcome your weaknesses. We can never fail enough. Influence followers to believe in their dreams. Persistence definitely works!

A Writer's Best Friend - Rock Star Energy Drinks

I didn't realize how many Rock Star drinks that I drank until I went to the recycling center. As a writer, the majority of my ideas surface at night. Sometimes I need that extra energy to stay up, otherwise I would fall asleep.

When I have take on projects, Rock Star drinks give me that extra energy. Although Rock stars don't assist me with the writing process, they do keep my mind clear so that I can concentrate on projects.

Sometimes one doesn't recognize volume until they see the end result. I realize that I need to drink more water because Rock Stars have a lot of caffeine and sugar. It doesn't hurt to drink Rock Stars in moderation, which goes for everything in life.

The possible reason people become teachers

While hanging out a college four years ago, I talked to another student about screenwriting. The student was interested in hearing about writing. He told me to continue writing and don't accept less in life.

I mentioned whether it would be be good to teach writing to others. He made a reference regarding teaching. He said that, "Teaching is for people that failed at accomplishing their dreams." What he suggested is that instead of abandoning their goals, people decided to teach others to live their dreams.

Also, before the student left, he told me to not imitate other writers. He said it was best to develop my own style of writing. He told me to avoid teaching because then I would accept failure. No disrespect to any hardworking teachers that help to educate millions of students each year, but the student made me think about the reason a person becomes a teacher.

Should teachers be looked as people that failed at accomplishing their dreams? Do people that fail at accomplishing their dreams take on teaching because they still want to remain in their field of interest? Do teachers really enjoy their jobs? Would a teacher leave their job if they had another chance at living their dream? Do teachers dream to teach in school?

However one looks at the analogy, the student brought up an important point.

Writing Articles with technology

Can we trust technology to write articles? Why do I question technology? I was writing a superb and witty article on "Almost Educated." What happened to the article?

Somehow, the template had a mind of its own. Without warning, the iGoogle tried to search for something, which then erased everything that I had written. I put a great deal of time and thought into the piece.

I know what message I was trying to send out there to people, but the examples and the creative analogies were lost.

Whenever you have an idea to write something creative, go back to using the traditional methods - notebook and pen. Your original ideas are usually the best. Don't take a chance at losing your creative ideas.

The more you write, the better your skills become

Open up a blogspot account and just write. When you have time, write about your day, what makes you happy, and share your learning lessons with others. People want to read about other people's experiences.

Think about what you can do to help out people. Is there an experience or a skill you can offer another? Every person is capable of becoming a better writing through practice and experience.

When you have a moment, open up a blog account and then write about whatever you think is interesting. There are millions of people that enjoy reading blogs. Any person can improve their writing skills. The saying that practice makes perfect is right on target.

Write about your dreams, daily experiences, past experiences, college, work, school, jokes, and whatever else comes to mind. The most important part of writing is to have fun.

Standard Brads Dilemma

The last day to submit television spec teleplays for the Disney Television Writing Fellowship Program was on July 1, 2009. For the past 3 years, I have tried to submit work, making it possible for me to work as a television writer for a period of one year, but have managed to miss the deadline - each and every time - for various reasons.

In 2007, After graduating from UCSB's Film & Media Program in 2007, I missed the Disney deadline because of financial issues. My Acura Integra was just repaired. A year before, the crankshaft and the timing belt broke. A few years before that time, the car was stolen. When the Disney deadline arrived, I was taking Summer courses to meet the graduation requirements.

I used to drive 200 miles round trip a day to college. In the Spring quarter before graduation, I needed one last course to graduate. The instructor, Dr. Wolf, knew that I needed the course and was aware of my traveling arrangements, but still elected to select other students based on favoritism. The reason I suspected this because many students approached the instructor before class had started and noted they e-mailed him about being selected for the course.

There were only 40 spots open for the course. I was not selected. The film adviser promised me a few months back that I would be selected because graduating seniors had priority over others. Now I was one course short of graduation. I tried to b pursue another course with an instructor that I disliked and that had failed many other students in her past courses. I was willing to make the sacrifice to meet the requirements for graduation. Again, I wasn't selected for the course.

I decided to take the course that I needed in the Summer quarter. Though I would be graduating in the Summer, I would have to attend class for another 6 weeks thereafter. The film course was a Alfred Hitchcock seminar, which I enjoyed. Since I attended that course, I also enrolled in an advanced scriptwriting course. Everything turned out well. I graduated on time, completed the required courses and received my degree. The Disney Fellowship had always been on my mind.

Disney is one of those companies that receives worldwide attention and respect. Any position involving Disney is a career defining opportunity. For some apparent reason, I was unable to submit a package for the program. Whenever I missed a deadline, I had to wait another year to apply for the program.

In 2007, the Disney Writing Fellowship was extended to August 1, 2008. I had plenty of time to submit work. Due to a major family emergency requiring long-terms hospital visits, postoperative care, and excessive freelance projects, I missed the Disney Fellowship again. Was I missing Disney for a particular reason?

After going through major obstacles to prepare for the Disney Writing Fellowship deadline on July 1, 2009, I discovered that things were not working out for me. In order to meet the requirement for the program, you have to submit a 30 minute or 60 minute teleplay, a 500 word biography, a PDF sample of the teleplay on CD, and a notarized application. What held me back from making the deadline?

Before I had left home to visit Northern California, I forgot to bring the items I needed to submit the work. I needed standard brass brads, which are larger brass paper fasteners, but couldn't find them anywhere. In Southern California, they are easy to find. Are standard brads a Hollywood item that can only be found in Southern California? I was starting to think that. In addition to the standard brads, I also needed 60 lb. paper to bind the teleplay together.

In Northern California, I searched several office and supply stores to locate the items that I needed. First, I visited Rite Aide. They didn't have the brass fasteners. The next stops were Wal-Mart, Target, Office Max, Longs, K-Mart, Safeway, Raley's, Staples, and Michael's. Each time, it was a recurring theme. None of the stores had the standard brads that I needed to bind the teleplay. What made matters worse, I couldn't find the 60lb. black paper for the front and back covers.

On the Internet, HBO's In Treatment teleplays weren't available for public viewing. I planned to write the spec teleplay on the show because I understood the show concept and the characters. I managed to work with what alternatives I could find.

After I improvised and was ready to piece together the package, I dropped a Coke on the ground, which shot up and sprayed on my Apple computer. I usually keep my Apple Powerbook G4 in perfect shape. You could imagine how I felt at this exact moment. Though the laptop wasn't damaged in the process, I was starting to contemplate whether there was a reason for missing the Disney Fellowship for the past three years.

The 2009 submission process was just as hard as the previous two years. Essentially, I had to buy another hole puncher, mini gold plated brass fasteners (not acceptable for industry standard requirement), and pay for a notary. Once I started writing the teleplay, I tried to close down the FireFox Explorer and it crashed the computer. Everything that I had written on In Treatment was now gone.

Whenever you do everything possible to realize your dream, everything seems to fail in the process. The signs were not pointing to my dreams and goals. If I would have made it as a Disney Fellowship winner - 8 spots available - then I would have been confined to the program without having the creative freedom to work on projects. Every writing project that I work on for the one year period belongs to Disney.

Whatever personal projects that I own or work on during the time frame are to be presented to Disney first before any other company. My student loans would be due, which the Disney pay of $50,000 for the year would be unable to cover. I wouldn't be able to work a second job or attend college. I really wanted to win a Disney writing spot. I know that I have the skills capable of making a major impact in television writing. What made me think about the obstacles was the Coke.

A few weeks back, I came up with a very creative Coke commercial that is sure to be a big hit. The standard brads made me realize that I should stop procrastinating on pursuing writing positions and opportunities. The Coke commercial and other projects that I'm holding back are keeping me from realizing my dream of being a writer. While I take on freelance work, I am prolonging the real goals that I set out to accomplish 15 years before.

Never think of recurring obstacles as bad luck. Look at them as a test to demonstrate whether you really want to accomplish your goals. I have gone through many struggles because of my Hollywood goals. No matter what, I still manage to move forward without wanting to give up. The standard brads suggested that I should be prepared the next time around to avoid possible delays.

Fixing my weaknesses and being ready for any obstacles will supply me with the essential tools necessary to compete in Hollywood. In retrospect, I wasn't ready for the Disney Writing Fellowship. When the moment is right, everything will fall into place.

You have to look at the positives behind every failure. Think of the obstacles that the main character endured in the Slumdog Millionaire film. Even though the main character experienced such major obstacles - in the end - he finally got what he really wanted - the girl. Winning the money was never his primary focus; it was an added bonus.

Go after your dreams and goals; never give up because of recurring challenges because you never know when that one opportunity will arrive, the one that helps you to realize your dreams.

The Right Place at the Wrong Time

Have you ever heard about being at the wrong place at the wrong time or being at the right place at the right time? I'm sure people feel like that way all the time. Imagine if you were at the right place at the wrong time. How about being at the right place at the wrong time twice or maybe even three time in one night.

This past January, I had dinner at Tony Roma's in Encino. I sat in the last booth near the bar. I tend to have dinner alone, especially when my lady is not around. Some assume that men are unable to go out and just have dinner without talking to another woman. Everyone needs a moment to digest the challenges of life; to rejuvenate and be ready for more obstacles.

The restaurant was busier than usual. Some nights appear like that. People need some time to reflect on their jobs, personal lives, and whatever else excites or stresses them out. The server was very busy as it was apparent that was juggling a dozen tables at one time. She passed by a few times and mentioned that she would be back in a few minutes. It felt like one of those déjà vu moments. She managed to pass by three times and say the same thing.

I was starving, not starving in the sense that I don't eat often, but I was extremely hungry. I usually visit Tony Roma’s for one reason, to eat their famous ribs. The server finally came back. I didn't need to contemplate on what to order. The dish was programmed into my mind like Microsoft Vista. Though, my mind was more stable and processed information better.

I ordered the bountiful beef ribs, which I might add are the best ribs there or anywhere else on the planet. I have tried ribs at many restaurants, and nothing compared to Tony Roma's beef ribs. Chili's has good pork ribs, but beef is my favorite kind of ribs. I decided that I would have an appetizer this time around.

Normally I focus on the beef ribs. The boneless buffalo strips just leaped out at me as if they were begging to be ordered. Not to sound crazy or anything, but food tends to communicate to you when you're extremely hungry.

I didn't hold back at all. I ordered the beef ribs, a salad, an appetizer, and a Sam Adams beer. The Sam Adams beer was exactly the one that I had on another trip the previous year. It was some type of Sam Adams wheat beer on draft - a seasonal one, but they may still have it there now.

The beer went down as smooth as any other. I tend to drink the Jeremiah Red beer at BJ's too. Whenever I go to restaurants, I have my favorites. With the economy, everyone must be financially responsible, especially with eating out and taking trips.

I'm not one of those people that drink until I get drunk. I like to enjoy a good drink one in a while. Sometimes I may go a year without having a beer. You wouldn't label me as a social drinker because I also drink Coke and Rock Star energy drinks.

To the right of me, I noticed two women dressed in business clothing. I zeroed in on what they were talking about. I know the formal name that I was trying to disclose was eves dropping.

Besides, I just heard something interesting about film, writing, and Disney. Those three trigger words took my mind out of sleep mode. Here I was, drinking a Sam Adams beer, waiting on a soon-to-be-tasty platter of beef ribs. The ribs were no longer the center of attention.

What were these women were talking about that attracted my attention? A number of their stories came up about a script, writing, Disney, Ron Howard, Michael Eisner, and so on. These were classy women that just radiated of executive power. They were sitting at the bar, enjoying a few glasses of wine and other drinks. They downloaded information about their future projects and just relaxed, and enjoyed the moment.

For any inspiring writer, this was a dream. How often do you have a chance to sit in the same space as the people that have the power to make your dreams a reality? I have lived 20 miles North of Hollywood for the past 4 years.

At times, I may see a few Hollywood stars walking around, trying to enjoy their time away from work. You know the drill; celebrities have to hide from the paparazzi. They complain about the irritating flashes from high-powered cameras. I want what these celebrities complain about. I have also wanted to work in Hollywood. Every decision that I made in the past 15 years is due to my dream.

The boneless buffalo strips were delivered. I declined to have another beer because driving under the influence is not safe. I am always responsible, especially when it comes to safety. I still couldn’t believe my ears.

For the past 18 months, since I graduated from UC Santa Barbara's Film & Media Studies undergraduate program, I have been writing academic papers for many students. I have helped other become successful. Many people can't pinpoint the exact moment they started a job or came up with an idea.

I remembered taking on a business project, one that requested me to create a website name. I decided to use Magic Writer. Since the website was already picked up by another, I settled with Writers Magician. I did visit the Magic Writer website to see what it was all about. There were a few writing companies on there. I found one that seemed cool. The link directed me to a site that catered to students and other professional clients that needed work produced. I applied and was accepted the next day. 18 months later, I have written thousands of pages for many diverse clients.

I ate half of the buffalo strips. The Sam Adams beer functioned like a glass of wine. After every bite, I washed down the strips with the beer - each bite was better than the next. Initially, I still focused on what these women were discussing. The midpoint, character development, and the setting all surfaced in the conversation. The server passed by and alerted me that the ribs would be ready soon. I nodded in agreement, but it was the writing conversation that had my direct attention.

The two film executives enjoyed their conversation. They had enjoying laughs, ones that were real and full of zest. I wanted to interact with these women about film. I understood everything they were talking about.

As mentioned earlier, every decision that I made in the past 15 years revolved around this moment. The hundreds of college film classes, degrees, reading writing books, talking to people, taking on film projects, and everything else that has to do with film prepared me. The beef ribs finally arrived. They were everything I expected, but the women were more.

There were only six ribs on the plate. Honestly, I have a really good memory. I knew they had removed one ribs. Seven ribs was the norm for the platter. When the server dropped off a few napkins, I asked about the ribs. She mentioned that my assumptions were right; the restaurant decided to remove one ribs from the platter. Not many people noticed that a rib was missing. I was still drawn to the ribs and the conversation. I only ate half of the ribs.

I tried to figure out was I should say to these women. I replayed the confrontation in my mind, over and over again. I treated the moment like a setup to a screenplay - Act I. I pulled out a receipt and wrote on it. On the paper, I communicated that these women inspired me and that I really enjoyed their conversation. I didn't want to make it look as if I was some stalker. I just wanted to thank them for inspiring me. I looked through my wallet, searching for the business cards that I usually kept in the money section.

Before I left, I had the business cards in my hand. It was like I sensed would need them, but I managed to leave them at home. People do that often. They never learn or even follow their instincts. I planned to send the cards to my brother to attract writing business.

I asked the server for a take out box. To me, I knew that I was in the right spot at the wrong time. The business card issue made me realize that whenever a person speaks to a film executive, they had to be ready. The business card was going to ruin what dreams that I made for the past two decades. Instead of being happy about being in the right spot, I now focused about the wrong time.

The bartender was cleaning the counter. When I signaled to her, she walked over. She was very friendly. I told her that I wanted to buy a glass of wine for one of the ladies. The bartender told me that the lady already had one glass too many to drink. She suggested that I go up to the ladies and talk to them. The bartender shared that one of the ladies happened to be Cindy Williams. This was the same Cindy Williams that starred on Laverne and Shirley as the blue-eyed beauty, Shirley.

I mustered the courage to approach the ladies. I told Cindy Williams that she inspired me. I also apologized for eves dropping. They laughed about the eves dropping incident and introduced themselves. The other lady was also working in the film industry - her name is Marla. They asked me about what I was doing now. I mentioned that I'm a ghostwriter for many clients.

Two years before, I graduated from UCSB as a film & media major. Within 30 seconds of talking about film, Cindy Williams asked for my business card. I knew that the business card issue was going to come up. The right spot and wrong time theme scrambled through my mind again. I told her that I didn't have one with me a time and that I had left it at home. This was like being at a party.

At parties, some people say or do the wrong thing and deflate the energy. I felt like one of these people that deflated the conversation. You could see it in Cindy's eyes. She said that if she and others opened a studio, they would consider hiring someone like me. I thought about it for a second.

Indeed, I was in the right spot and could make this the right moment. Cindy had a book in her purse. I asked if I could write down my information. Again, I made another rookie mistake. I wrote down my name and e-mail address. I left out my phone number, the most important piece of information.

Marla was also nice as well. She had a nice solitaire diamond ring on her finger. These women were extremely friendly and respectful. They were really easy to talk to. I never felt like I was judged as a smaller person. Cindy and Marla had to leave. They shook my hand, wished me luck, and really added hope to my life. I congratulated Marla on her engagement and wished her luck on her future wedding. Cindy and Marla both looked at me and then at each other. Marla mentioned that I was a real good listener. They thanked me and told me to continue on with my writing goals. Cindy and Marla had a busy day to look forward to; they were living my dream.

Was it possible that the right spot at the wrong time would occur for the third time in a night? I left the restaurant through the back entrance, beating myself about the business card mistake. Cindy and Marla were walking outside; they dispersed and went off to their vehicles. Cindy was driving a nice white car. I can't remember the make, but it was nice.

I approached Cindy and started to talk about the writing again. Marla drove up and made sure Cindy was okay to drive. Cindy told me that I should write for the new media. She said that writing commercials opened up opportunities for writers. I had a chance to fix the phone number mistake, but forgot to mention it again. I don’t know what my problem was; maybe I had a case of celebritistis. Cindy had to leave. She was an awesome person.

Cindy drove by, honked at me, and cheeringly talked out A man quickly moved out of the way, thinking he was being warned about standing in front of her car. Cindy looked extremely happy, so energetic, and full of life. She was real genuine. There was nothing fake about her at all. I smiled and thanked her for the kindness.

While driving off and away from Tony Roma's parking lot, the right spot at the wrong time theme played in my head. I didn't have a business card, I didn't write down my phone number down, and didn't fix my mistakes outside.

Whenever you want something as much as I want to be a writer, make sure you're always prepared. Carry business cards, have portfolio samples, and just be ready to discuss your skills and goals. Be positive about your chances and don't allow negativity to cloud your judgment. Always think about being in the right place at the right time.

The Psychology of Writing

With anything in life, the more you practice, the better to become at it. I learned to expand my writing skills through mental conditioning. For the past 15 years, I wanted to write films in Hollywood. I am aware that you have to make sacrifices to accomplish goals. However long it takes to accomplish a goal, you have to be positive.

As a freelance writer, I learned about what it takes to become a great writer. Life experiences, practical skills, and mental conditioning helped me to move closer to my ultimate goal. The psychology of writing will help you discover what internal processes keep you from writing academic papers, evaluations, professional projects, and anything else that requires writing skills.

At one time, I disliked academic writing. The only time I enjoyed writing is when I wrote screenplays and creative writing pieces. While in film school, I remembered struggling on a critical essay for an advanced film analysis class - half of the people failed the course. The teacher was very stern. Each week I visited her office and asked her how she would write the paper. I was tired of getting F's on the papers. She gave me advice, which I used to write the next paper. There were five total papers that confronted the plot devices in films. Students were struggling to the point where they were unable to sleep.

After all the hard work I put in that class, I got a D. That was the worst grade that I have ever earned. It was enough to pass the course, which the Film Department considered to be a boot camp. After that moment, I would have never thought that I would be writing academic and professional papers for many diverse students. I managed to learn what it takes to become a good writer through developing writing techniques and training my mind to enjoy it. I helped many students earn A's on a variety of papers. There is a reason for every event. The process of writing requires psychological conditioning.

Many people lose focus because of negative psychological thinking. They tend to think that life never goes as planned and they will never be able to accomplish any goals. Never use failures as an excuse to accomplish your goals. Identify your failures as a way to improve your weaknesses.

Always stick to a positive frame of thinking. Many people find writing to be a challenging process. Think of writing as brain enrichment. Researchers suggest that when people expose themselves to a positive environment, their brain can grow. Poor psychosocial conditions are what essentially cause people to develop mental disorders. In simple terms, a person that allows society to influence their way of living is giving into the social influences, which in result causes psychological problems.

How can you become a better writer? Should you read books on how to write? Would it be wise to major in writing? Some people suggest that a person needs talent to be a writer. You want to know what it takes to become a good writer?

Tell yourself that you want to be a good writer. Don't only visualize yourself writing, take the time to actually write. Schedule the activities that you enjoy most. This way, you get into a rhythm of meeting deadlines. Writing is not like a job. Continue to tell yourself that and don't lose focus on your main goal. Because if you want to complete an essay or a 20 page research paper, try to take on the assignment over a period of time and avoid doing it the night before.

At first writing will seem like a job. Maybe even an unbearable act of torture. Respect writing for what it really signifies - your way of communicating to a specific audience. Compare your current writing to some sample from the past. As you begin to write in volume, your mind is able to process information more efficiently.

Sometime you're amazed at how fast your brain processes words. When you write, you question how your mind is able to prepare the next word. Your subconscious senses process content at a rate that exceeds 11 million words per minute. A conscious mind is able to listen at a rate of 850 words per minute. On the opposing side, an average speaker can deliver 150 words a minute. People assume that communicating is a process that requires more speaking than listening.

Listening is one of the best ways to improve your writing skills. Why do people mentally struggle to write? There are many that hate writing because they refuse to listen. Have you ever sat at your computer and just stared in space? You glance at the clock and notice that you have 5 hours before class starts. You have no clue about what you're going to write. Your stress level is off the charts. The only thing you're thinking about is what excuses you will make to your instructor. If you listened in class the writing process would be much more efficient.

Writing is more of a psychology issue than anything else. Try to read content that relates to assignment. This will increase your interest level, which will allow you to write more effectively without losing focus. Time management and communication skills are two of the most useful processes that allow a person to avoid psychological hang-ups that influence the writing process.

Bookstores have many books on writing. You can pay a person to write your papers. Are you really learning? If you don't want to work as a writer, then you can pay a writer to produce your work. In this day and age, people can pay another person to do all of their work and earn a degree in the process.

When that person is recruited or hired to perform a job, they struggle with the basic components of the position. Because they elected to avoid writing their own papers, they managed to miss important information regarding their career field.

Writing books are interesting to read. There is some valuable content that is sure to help a person write. No one book, person, entities can push you to write except your mind.
