Shutter Island

Shutter Island was an interesting film. I would rather avoid giving up the storyline. It had a clever twist at the end. The psychiatric island put the audience on edge. Pay attention to all the clues. Every plot point is important to the resolution. Everything will be explained at the end. Watch Shutter Island with an open mind. Assess the film as it you are a psychologist. It will make sense. Have fun!

Materialism causes mental disorders

Why are people materialistic? What makes people want expensive things? Society drives people to the breaking point of insanity. Magazines are graced with beautiful models, designer clothing, lavish homes, and dynamic sport cars. Television segments evaluate what glamourous clothing celebrities wear to award shows. Life seems to portray a never-ending popularity contest. Materialism is one of the main causes of mental disorders in society.

Because of materialism, people experience high stress in trying to please others. A materialistic person focuses too much on what others have instead of being happy with their own life. Materialistic people compare their situation to others. They manipulate people to buy them materialistic goods. One will notice that materialistic people give ultimatums to obtain their material wants. The materialism world pressures society to compete in a losing battle to gain attention.

Every person lives a different quality of life. It is unfair to compare one situation to another. There is no obvious way to explain the reason why some people can own nice cars and homes. These people are able make a good living without a college education. However, materialism creates intense pressure for those who choose to pursue a college education. Materialistic people rush results to secure their material wants.

Materialistic people are too dependent on what society thinks of them, they treat good people with less respect. Such negative people ridicule someone for being unable to make an expensive purchase. Indeed, materialistic people are inconsiderate and irresponsible. In a materialistic relationship, materialism influence couples to resent each other. Essentially, materialism creates unrealistic obstacles that are impossible to attain.

Materialistic people assume their significant other is holding out on buying them expensive things. Eventually, the relationship will fall apart since there are recurring fights between what one can't afford and what purchases are not necessary. Imagine the pressure that materialism places on a responsible person. Would living together and understanding a financial situation be enough to prevent materialism and selfish wants?

Materialism is like a leech sucking the love out of every relationship. Materialistic people constantly complain about not getting jewelry, a vehicle, going on trips, and for not receiving other expensive merchandise. In order to build a strong relationship, a couple must be on the same page. Why put a responsible person through intense stress because of material wants?

Materialism creates a false illusion that material possessions such as designer handbags, cars, homes, and clothing will attract attention. Whereas, lonely people are prone to developing social anxiety, depression, and antisocial personalities, materialistic people influence others to develop depression because of their psychosocial influences. Essentially, a materialistic person wants to own expensive items to please others, confirming they have success through gaining attention.

Materialism revolves around unmet needs, ranging from not receiving enough attention and being unable to obtain possessions a person desired in the past. Materialism is more about pleasing others rather than satisfying their immediate needs. What is the main reason a person wants to make expensive purchases? Some people make purchases that are affordable because they don't care what others think. Materialistic people may possibly have insecurity issues. They worry about how others perceive them. Does having nice jewelry, expensive purses, a new car, and a home keep a materialistic person happy?

Materialistic people feel that filling a void with material possessions will secure their happiness. The truth to the matter is that happiness is finding the good in every moment. No matter how many nice things a materialistic person receives, they will never appreciate them. They will always see others getting more better material possessions, therefore questioning their significant other why they don't receive the same things. They will hear of others going on trips and see another drive a new car. In result, materialism influence materialist people to fall into a depressive state because they don't own the same material items.

Materialistic people don't work hard for what they own because they expect others to make the purchases. This article is two-sided argument, as both men and women can be materialistic. Society associates women as being materialistic, but there men that act selfish too. Men seek to obtain material wants to satisfy their internal needs. Materialistic people avoid looking at the cost of material items, instead focusing on whether their significant other can make purchases to duplicate the action of another.

Sadly enough, materialistic people place an outrageous price tag on validating love through setting the bar so high for a partner, there is no way to meet their personal standards. Materialistic people are not bad people; they do care about their relationship. How does materialism relate to mental disorders?

The media analyzes society through a microscope, setting the social standards to guide society in what perceive is the ideal life to live. Writers produce negative articles that criticize obesity, eating disorders, fashion, and other negative aspects that pressure insecure people. The rich and the famous are portrayed as the standard of success. Average people must sit back and watch celebrities live a fantasy life. Materialism influences people to judge those who lack education, money, and material possessions.

In high school, classmates compete for popularity. Physical looks, designer clothing, high-quality purses, expensive cars, and dating attractive people gain the most attention. The media creates a false illusions of what is cool and what is not. Social influences fuel materialism because there is a need to conform to be accepted as part of a social group. Students want to impress others, fearing rejection and loneliness will make them appear as strange and unpopular. The media portrays loneliness as a psychological disorder.

Materialistic people criticize, judge and torment others. They treat average people with less respect and don't value their worth. Materialism is an impossible force to defeat. No matter how hard a person works to keep things in order, materialism complicates every situation. Fighting about what one person does for another becomes a routine challenge because a responsible person is unable to deliver material possessions.

Materialistic people measure material possessions as the standard to evaluating love. Despite that money is hard to make and that one must be careful with spending too much, materialistic people forget about the traditional standards that define love. When these people have unmet wants, they will manipulate and question the value of their relationship. They use material possessions as a sign to measure love, suggesting that a person doesn't want to make an expensive purchase to devalue the relationship.

Materialistic people make it hard for others to satisfy their wants. Essentially, in the end, materialism causes intense pressure to make a responsible person develop a mental disorder because they keep trying to meet impossible demands. Materialistic people who work hard for their wants have the freedom to purchase material possessions. On the contrary, materialistic people without the financial means to satisfy their material wants shouldn't expect others to make impossible purchases. Hence, materialism sabotages healthy relationships because such selfishness is the devil in disguise.

The media influences people to become materialistic. Materialism causes mental disorders to develop such as depression, social anxiety, and personality disorders. Materialist people are too dependent on confirming their value through attracting attention that they allow media manipulation to misrepresent the ideal life. Responsible people make a valid attempt to work hard under intense scrutiny to maintain a positive balance. Materialistic people challenge their moral decency to satisfy their inner desire.

In essence, materialistic people create conflict with responsible people. They find it rather challenging to function without securing their materialistic wants. Moreover, materialism makes people rude, unthoughtful, inconsiderate, and irresponsible. Materialistic people use materialism as an act of desperation to live in the public eye. Materialism is the epitome of evil.

Dreaming: The Meaning of the Neverending Examination

Multiple instructors monitored the large forum like a military installation. The room was filled with many eager students that were ready to get the test over and done with. Though, the dream was somewhat vague, the main focus channeled on the examination.

At the time of the dream, I couldn't figure out why I was experiencing so much difficulty completing to the examination. The neverending examination seemed to last forever. As time was quickly winding down, I was stuck on page 1. The examination was a dozen pages long. I kept changing answers; no one answer seemed to fit.

I remembered the time expiring. Due to the fact that this was a final examination, my future hanged in the balance. I was stressing out in trying to figure out how to gain access to more time. The content was hard to dcciper and I stilled had a reasonably hard time The instructor started to argue with me. I refused to be ridiculed in front of the entire class. I fought back.

Essentially, I compared the element of time to something regarding the process of creating an introduction. There was no real connection with an introduction and time, but I given a slight extension for showing directness and for making an argument. Another student asked whether they could have additional time to complete the examination, but she elected to turn down him and each and every other student that requested an extension.

The main them that I noticed about the dream was about my inability to complete the examination and the high level of stress the processes created in doing so, knowing that my grade depended on the completing the final examination.

Dreaming about an examination usually refers to relevants concerning failure. An examination can also symbolize that a person is being tested too often in trying to meet the demands and expectations of family, friends, and society in general.

In the dream, I refused to give up and I also felt a sense of urgency to complete the examination. My stress increased as the time continued to tick away. The time sensitive concern targeted my concerns of reaching a goal in an given timeframe. Now I know that I'm thinking too much about accomplishing my dream of being a film writer that it's putting alot of pressure on me. Family, friends, and other people don't see why I keep trying for something that is not likely to happen, instead they belief it is time to abandon the 15 year goal to live an average life.

The examination represented the goal itself while the time refered to my concern about reaching the goal because of outside influences that are pressuring me to choose between more realistic goals. The instructor conflict demonstrated that others control whether I succeed or not. The "others" refer to the film industry executives. When I refused to give up that responded to my drive and motivaton to become successful.

After failing to win a recent screenwriting contest, I started to question my writing talents. My mother recently suggested that I look for another line of work because I have too much bad luck. In my relationship, she doesn't see the immediate results and fail to look at the long-term achievements. Last week I had a dream about a clogged up toilet that started to flood the entire room. Dreaming about a toilet being clogged up refers to expressing emotions.

Recently, I have been having more dreams that are confronting the pressures that I feel with excessive freelance writing work and my inability to accomplish my film writing dream. I feel that I'm battling time, lack of support, and other conflict that is holding me back from becoming a film writer. We'll see what dreams follow thereafter. The neverending examination is like my neverending writing dream that seems to lose luster as time continues press on. Hopefully I find that big break soon. Pay attention to your dreams. They all have meanings and can help to be a better person.

An outlet away from writing: Drawing

Take on a hobby outside of Writing

I just thought I should share that you should write and not overdo it. I just recently picked up on drawing. I'm still an amateur though. Whenever you write until your neck is stiff and your head hurts, you have to take a break.

While working out in the gym, I can feel the strained muscles on the back of my neck. The shoulder workouts are the worst. With every movement, the muscles tear more and more.

Writing is best done in spurts

Don't burn yourself trying to rush work. Think of writing like reading. Most people don't finish reading a book in one day. They take their time to dissect each chapter to fully understand the scenes, setting, and the plot. After producing a ton of work in the past few years, the excessive writing finally caught up to me. Writing should be done in the same manner.

The type of writing determines your level of exhaustion

Writing non-fiction creative writing pieces are more soothing than taking on highly critical academic work that you despise. The next time your assigned an essay, research paper, or a take home test, take your time to outline the work. Know what you areas you want to touch upon. Cold academic writing is one of the most strenuous activities for the mind. Take your time to outline, locate sources, and try to enjoy the project. Pick something interesting and don't stress.

Avoid Writing Burnout

Take it easy to avoid burning yourself out, especially if your primary job is a writer. Writing film and television scripts, trying to meet a magazine and newspapers deadlines, and trying to complete academic projects are stressful moments. Your mind can only take so much before it begins to short circuit. Try to find an outlet away from writing.

Noticing writing burnout

When I overwrite, I become more critical about the quality of the work. No matter how much I revise the work, it never appears good enough. After taking a moment to rest, I return back to the same work. The work that I tried to revise didn't require any revisions. Taking some time to rest improves your ability to process information. Computers need to be shutdown. Humans overload their minds the same way as computers do with processing requests. Try to avoid burnout and you will immediately notice the improvements - both mentally and physically.

Good luck on your writing!

The Psychology of Writing

With anything in life, the more you practice, the better to become at it. I learned to expand my writing skills through mental conditioning. For the past 15 years, I wanted to write films in Hollywood. I am aware that you have to make sacrifices to accomplish goals. However long it takes to accomplish a goal, you have to be positive.

As a freelance writer, I learned about what it takes to become a great writer. Life experiences, practical skills, and mental conditioning helped me to move closer to my ultimate goal. The psychology of writing will help you discover what internal processes keep you from writing academic papers, evaluations, professional projects, and anything else that requires writing skills.

At one time, I disliked academic writing. The only time I enjoyed writing is when I wrote screenplays and creative writing pieces. While in film school, I remembered struggling on a critical essay for an advanced film analysis class - half of the people failed the course. The teacher was very stern. Each week I visited her office and asked her how she would write the paper. I was tired of getting F's on the papers. She gave me advice, which I used to write the next paper. There were five total papers that confronted the plot devices in films. Students were struggling to the point where they were unable to sleep.

After all the hard work I put in that class, I got a D. That was the worst grade that I have ever earned. It was enough to pass the course, which the Film Department considered to be a boot camp. After that moment, I would have never thought that I would be writing academic and professional papers for many diverse students. I managed to learn what it takes to become a good writer through developing writing techniques and training my mind to enjoy it. I helped many students earn A's on a variety of papers. There is a reason for every event. The process of writing requires psychological conditioning.

Many people lose focus because of negative psychological thinking. They tend to think that life never goes as planned and they will never be able to accomplish any goals. Never use failures as an excuse to accomplish your goals. Identify your failures as a way to improve your weaknesses.

Always stick to a positive frame of thinking. Many people find writing to be a challenging process. Think of writing as brain enrichment. Researchers suggest that when people expose themselves to a positive environment, their brain can grow. Poor psychosocial conditions are what essentially cause people to develop mental disorders. In simple terms, a person that allows society to influence their way of living is giving into the social influences, which in result causes psychological problems.

How can you become a better writer? Should you read books on how to write? Would it be wise to major in writing? Some people suggest that a person needs talent to be a writer. You want to know what it takes to become a good writer?

Tell yourself that you want to be a good writer. Don't only visualize yourself writing, take the time to actually write. Schedule the activities that you enjoy most. This way, you get into a rhythm of meeting deadlines. Writing is not like a job. Continue to tell yourself that and don't lose focus on your main goal. Because if you want to complete an essay or a 20 page research paper, try to take on the assignment over a period of time and avoid doing it the night before.

At first writing will seem like a job. Maybe even an unbearable act of torture. Respect writing for what it really signifies - your way of communicating to a specific audience. Compare your current writing to some sample from the past. As you begin to write in volume, your mind is able to process information more efficiently.

Sometime you're amazed at how fast your brain processes words. When you write, you question how your mind is able to prepare the next word. Your subconscious senses process content at a rate that exceeds 11 million words per minute. A conscious mind is able to listen at a rate of 850 words per minute. On the opposing side, an average speaker can deliver 150 words a minute. People assume that communicating is a process that requires more speaking than listening.

Listening is one of the best ways to improve your writing skills. Why do people mentally struggle to write? There are many that hate writing because they refuse to listen. Have you ever sat at your computer and just stared in space? You glance at the clock and notice that you have 5 hours before class starts. You have no clue about what you're going to write. Your stress level is off the charts. The only thing you're thinking about is what excuses you will make to your instructor. If you listened in class the writing process would be much more efficient.

Writing is more of a psychology issue than anything else. Try to read content that relates to assignment. This will increase your interest level, which will allow you to write more effectively without losing focus. Time management and communication skills are two of the most useful processes that allow a person to avoid psychological hang-ups that influence the writing process.

Bookstores have many books on writing. You can pay a person to write your papers. Are you really learning? If you don't want to work as a writer, then you can pay a writer to produce your work. In this day and age, people can pay another person to do all of their work and earn a degree in the process.

When that person is recruited or hired to perform a job, they struggle with the basic components of the position. Because they elected to avoid writing their own papers, they managed to miss important information regarding their career field.

Writing books are interesting to read. There is some valuable content that is sure to help a person write. No one book, person, entities can push you to write except your mind.

As time goes on, I will share what helps me to write. I have written many papers. In the past year, I have written more academic and professional papers than a dozen people would do in a lifetime. I always find the revision process the best strategy in improving the quality of writing.

When most people write, they tend to overwrite. They use excessive quotes to can add more content to the paper. Why do instructors want students to quote? Quoting allows a student to analyze multiple sources to make a point, or possibly support their thesis.

Next time around - when you have to write - tell your mind that you want to write because you enjoy the process. Try to avoid distractions. If you have to, visit the nearby coffee shop. Purchase your favorite drink, sit down, and focus. Think about what makes you excited to so things you enjoy most.

I would suggest buying one of those Gold Fibre project-planning books at Walmart. Organize your thoughts, prepare outlines, and take notes. Essentially, these practices will help you to defeat the psychological setbacks that stall the writing process. The reason that I suggest a quality project planner is because if you try to always use your computer, you will excuses or distractions that will take you away from writing. When you write in a planner, you improve your internal processing.

Remember: the more you write, the more efficient the process becomes. Mentally conditioning your mind will help you become a better writer. Any person can improve their writing skills. Keep positive, stay focused, and write with positive energy.
